Way of Life, 2017, stoneware
So, why is it so hard to see, or take action against, the ways in which our systems favor one group of people over another simply based on skin color? Because if you are white, it’s a comfortable way to live. Opening white eyes and speaking too loud will disrupt white comfort. Sleeping through the complexity, pacifying yourself with your own world, is much safer, and easier. Tonight I invite guests to wake the baby with me. To disrupt the White way of life. To peel off the soft shroud of whiteness and wrap ourselves in discomfort.
